Article - "We Speak"

Just out: my article in Fine Art Connoisseur Magazine on the "We Speak" show currently at the Woodmere Art Museum. Take a look if you can get hold of one. The reproductions are so beautiful. And go see this show if you're in the Philadelphia area. It's truly amazing, humbling, and inspiring!

Judging

Artists Eliza Auth (l) and Nancy Bea Miller (r) judging "100 Years of Art" at Harcum College  photo credit: Amy Shumoski
I was delighted to be invited to judge Harcum College's exhibition, 100 Years of Art, along with artist Eliza Auth. The work was extremely varied in every way making this a tough judging challenge! I especially appreciated having a co-judge to discuss the choices with. I've been invited to judge several other shows this past year, solo, so this colleague process made a nice change!

The show looks wonderful in the Marlo Little Theatre, which has been turned into a light-filled chapel of art with the help of perfectly proportioned temporary walls. It looks like it was meant to be an art gallery, although we were told it usually is used for lectures, musical recitals and yoga classes!

Teaching Winter/Spring 2015

~Yes, there's a whole lot of teaching going on this semester~

1) My Figure Drawing class at the Main Line Art Center is on Thursday nights, 1/22/15-3/12/15,  6:30-9:30 pm.  As usual, we will explore many different mediums and methods, and people are free to draw using the materials of their choice: charcoal, graphite, pastel, etc. On request, the class is now open to water media painting too! All levels welcome. Info here:
https://www.mainlineart.org/education_classes.php?classtype=adultclassesworkshops&semesterid=66&subtype=&medium=&instructor=Nancy+Bea+Miller&level=&day=0

If you'd like to see an album of student work from the past class or two here's that link:

2) I'm teaching an introductory Watercolor Painting class at Montgomery County Community College. As some people know, these classes are open to all Montgomery county residents and can be taken not just for credit, but as "continuing education" at a very reasonable cost. There's also no pre-requisite for people not taking the class for credit. This semester the class runs January 21-May 12, Monday & Wednesday, 12:55-2:55 pm, on the Bluebell, PA campus. You can get the registration info on the MC3 website: http://www.mc3.edu/  Look for Watercolor Painting ART*222*EC (20720)

3) I'll also be teaching an Art History class at Montgomery County Community College, but it is already full.

4) In addition, I am teaching a mixed level Drawing 1 & 2 class at Montgomery County Community College. This class is also fully enrolled.

Thanks for your interest!

"The Philadelphia Plein Air Painters is a group of students and alumni from the prestigious Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia, who have come together through their love of chasing light and painting on location in the outdoors. Although each artist has his or her own individual voice and painting style, the group’s work as a whole shares a common passion for careful observation of color and light, as well as the academic painting tradition.
Urban, suburban, seaside or country–everything is a subject for their brushes and palettes." ~NAA
