National Show award

Delighted and honored to have won an award at the Plein Air Painters of New Mexico 16th Annual National Juried Exhibition. It’s my first time showing my work in Santa Fe and I was completely surprised and almost overwhelmed to win Best of Artist Members, especially as I am a fairly new member. Very humbled and grateful to this really wonderful organization @papnm01 and to Judge of Awards @kathleenbhudson to @legendsofthewestfineart and a lot of dear friends and family who helped make this happen 💕🙏🥰

Amazingly large happy attendance!

With lovely Legends of the West Gallery director Kristen Tiniel

Went back the next day to make sure it was all real!

Although each artist has his or her own individual voice and painting style, the group’s work as a whole shares a common passion for careful observation of color and light, as well as the academic painting tradition.
Urban, suburban, seaside or country–everything is a subject for their brushes and palettes." ~NAA

Outdoor Painter article!

My friend Alex Tyng and I have reciprocal portraits in the Painters Painting section of Outdoor Painter! Outdoor Painter is the online version of Plein Air magazine. Both the paintings in the article (written by Steve Doherty) were done on the same trip, one year ago when Alex and I went on a "business trip" to Maine. Click each image to enlarge and read.

What a fun and fruitful trip that was! For a time at least, you can read the piece online by clicking here.

Upcoming Workshop!

Plein Air Painting Day at Fiorella Farm

Wednesday May 26 (rain date May 27)
9 am to 4 pm
All experience levels welcome, beginner to pro
$125 for the day includes three meals

Enjoy a pleasurable day of plein air (outdoor) landscape painting with me, artist and teacher Nancy Bea Miller, on a beautiful, historic farm hidden away on the edge of the city. Fiorella Farm is a working 3.5-acre organic farm, part of a larger protected land trust, near the Schuylkill Valley Nature Center in the Andorra section of Philadelphia. $125 for the day includes light breakfast, sit-down lunch prepared by chef/farmer Pat Fiorella featuring food grown on the farm, and end-of-day drinks and nibbles.

The day will begin with coffee and muffins and a guided tour of the historic farm and property. For those new to landscape painting, I will present a detailed demo on how to get started and what to aim for. Paint until the lunch hour when participants will be invited to partake of a multi-course gourmet meal in the farmhouse. Painting will continue through the afternoon, with individual instruction on an as-needed basis. This day will end with a convivial group critique/discussion accompanied by drinks and delicious snacks.

Participants must have their own painting equipment although some folding easels will be available for those who need them. To register or for more information contact Pat Fiorella:

Plein Air at Beaver Farm!

The Big Day

was a very big day indeed! On August 8th, 34 artists converged on Beaver Farm in Phoenixville PA for a wonderful day of painting, delicious food and camaraderie. The weather gods cooperated and we had a lovely day. Joyful reunions were happening all over the place as old friends saw one another again, and many new friends met for the first time, too.

Of course the main attraction was art-making. This working biodynamic farm is a place of such quiet but intense beauty many of the artists felt almost overwhelmed by choices. However this is a nice problem to have, and everyone got to work:

Rachel Constantine in the garden

John Sevcik tackled the big old farmhouse

Stuart Shils at work under the tall trees

Eliza Auth worked both in pastels and in oils

Me (Nancy Bea Miller) courtesy of Marianne Mitchell

Marianne Mitchell stops to take a look at her piece in progress

Jeffrey Reed contemplating his next piece

Al Gury and Nancy Bea Miller

Rebecca Thornburgh, Jo-Ann Osnoe, Dianne Morrow, David lee, Mary Walsh, Elizabeth Wilson, Alex Tyng et. al.

Aina Roman breaking in a new french easel and experimenting like crazy!

Ellen Cooper painting through the roses

Paul DuSold faces the paparazzi with good grace

Giovanni Casedei was so absorbed in his work he didn't notice

Suzy Schireson tackled the silo

Elaine Lisle got some canine companionship

Alex Tyng painting by the laundry line

Ellen Cooper, Laura Kaderabeck Eyring and Frances Galante, hard at it

Fred Danziger and one of his miniatures, with Stuart Shils

Sarah Barr and her big old monster camera

Garth Herrick out sitting in the field

Betsey Batchelor and "her" tree

The stragglers pose for one more shot at the end of an utterly amazing day! Participating artists not previously mentioned include Michael Bartmann, Joe Sweeney, Lynne Campbell, Dale Roberts, Fay Stanford, John Ennis, Carla Tudor, Elana Hagler and Mary Hiltbrandt. Thank you so much everyone!

A one day exhibit and sale of the work to benefit Camphill Special School, will be held November 3, reception 5:30-8 pm at Rosenfeld Gallery, 113 Arch Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106
All are welcome!
